Unfortunately, the Halal Butcher Shop in Sharpsburg, MD has closed their shop.

Halal processing of lambs and goats can be done at Old Line Meats in Baltimore.   On the FCSB website — click on the “Products” tab — then click on “Meat” for two other processing plants..

Local Lamb, Goat and Cattle producers can now provide their customers with lambs, goats, and cattle that can be processed in two ways — Regular Custom Processing — and Halal Custom Processing.

Customer and farmer (lamb, goat producer) discuss the size lamb/goat wanted, whole lamb/goat carcass, or custom cut into steaks, chops, roasts, costs, dates needed, available dates at butcher shops, etc.

Most farms do not allow on-farm processing – customers must use a local butcher shop.

1. REGULAR CUSTOM PROCESSING.   Farmer brings your lamb to the butcher shop. Lamb is USDA inspected, properly aged for 8-9 days, custom processed into steaks, chops, roasts; packaged and labeled any way the customer wants. Customer picks up their lamb – pays the butcher shop for their processing charge – and pays the farmer for the lamb.

2. HALAL CUSTOM PROCESSING.   Farmer brings your lamb to the Halal butcher shop. Lamb is USDA inspected and processed – usually carcass is cut into quarters. Customer picks up their finished lamb – pays the butcher shop for their processing charge – and pays the farmer for the lamb.

Lamb producer (farmer) will bring your lamb to a butcher shop. There are two Halal shops that process lambs – in Sharpsburg, MD, and in Baltimore, MD.

Arrange well in advance to purchase and have your lamb processed. Do not contact local farmer at the last minute. Many butcher shops have waiting lists.

There are many other butcher shops in Maryland, southern Pennsylvania, and northern Virginia that custom process lamb and goat. The local farmer will discuss the butcher shops they work with.
